MIDI Study Pack #1 - Commanding the Fleet

In this educational pack I break down and teach from the track "Commanding the Fleet", which I composed as an official demo for the sample library Soaring Strings.

MIDI Study Pack #2 - Hillsdale

In this educational pack I use my lively period-drama style track "Hillsdale", as an orchestration case study for using woodwinds and strings to carry the rhythm and propel an energetic track forwards.
As random of a cashgrab as this assortment of bundled products may seem, I believe that this combination of products actually offers a really complete compilation of instruction for someone who is seriously looking at starting a career composing for visual media. The two flagship courses contained in this bundle were created to be complimentary; You access the MIDI course to make sure that you are set up with all the music creation tools and know how to use them at a functional and solid level. And then the film scoring course picks up and teaches  the computer-based composer the principles and practices of scoring for film.

BUT (and I think this is a significant "but") where a lot of other film scoring instruction teaches how the process and projects go at an A-list Hollywood level (with big budgets and orchestras and large music teams and stuff) this instruction assumes that you will be starting at the bottom of the composing food chain (the no-budget/low budget indie film and promotional media realm), and gives practical insights into navigating the early steps of your career ladder as you wear all the hats and forge your path through this weird and wacky world.

As an added bonus, this bundle comes with two MIDI Study packs, the idea behind which is to create a single in-depth orchestration and composition lesson based on the MIDI files of a particular piece of mine (in this case, "Commanding the Fleet" and "Hillsdale"). This provides the opportunity for the kind of detailed study one would undertake with full orchestra scores, but in the context of a MIDI environment.

To get more info about these products, you should really look at their respective product pages, but to sum up, this bundle contains:

  • Lifetime Access to over 25 total Hours (72 Lessons) of Instructional Video on Music Hardware + Software, Composing, Controlling virtual instruments to create realistic and powerful music, and all things Film Scoring (from theory and technique to project management and client relationships)

  • Lifetime Access to Private Forte Composer Academy Facebook support and fellowship group

THIS BUNDLE WAS CREATED FOR:

  • Those who are excited and serious about the prospect of composing music for visual media but are not sure how to use the basic tools or how to go about scoring films
  • Those who have an inner drive to fuel their own music educations but could use some direction and structure
  • Those who have a basic or intermediate (or above) knowledge of music. You do not need to be a virtuoso, music theory nerd, or even be able to read music (although that obviously a good thing!). If you have an internal love of music and possess a basic working understanding of terms like "melody", "chords", "octave", then you can get a lot out of this bundle.
  • Those who have a basic or intermediate (or above) knowledge of computers. You do not need to be an IT specialist or even be naturally tech savvy (I'm absolutely not!). If you know how to swap out a harddrive in your computer (or know how to figure this out), then you can do this. However, if the prospect of doing something technical of that scale is completely daunting to you, then... this bundle (and maybe this profession) is probably not for you.
  • Those who have particular interest in the ORCHESTRAL/CINEMATIC side of music creation. That's what I know best, and since we are talking about music for film/media, that is the emphasis of all the instruction in the bundle. The principles apply to other genres, but you will get most out of the bundle if orchestral-based composition is in your plans.

THIS BUNDLE WAS *NOT* CREATED FOR:

  • Those who are only interested in learning about fimscoring OR virtual music production, but not both (then buy the courses separately)
  • Those who are already composing for media at an advanced (comfortably professional) level
  • Those who want to get super audiophile-y about microphones and live recording and acoustic treatment and such. That is really cool stuff, but it's not covered in this course beyond the basics of what you need to start composing in a MIDI/VI ecosystem.
  • Those who want a Quick Path To Success
  • Those who want to Make an Easy Buck (lol)
