In this educational pack I break down my strings and piano piece "Doors and Windows", which I composed as a demo for Orchestral Tools' Benjamin Wallfisch Strings and Stringscapes
This MIDI Study Pack serves as an hands-on orchestration and composition lesson, and provides a particular focus on working with pizzicatos and pianos. It will also be of particular interest to owners of Benjamin Wallfisch Strings.
This MIDI Study Pack comes packed in .zip format and contains the following files:
.mid - This is a MIDI file, which can be opened in any DAW or notation program (although opening it in a DAW like Cubase or Logic is recommended).
.cpr - This is a Cubase 11 project file. The main reason to use .cpr over the MIDI is so you can see the additional volume automation I am doing in Cubase, and to see how I am using (minimal) FX.
.wav - This is the final, mixed version of the piece for your listening reference.
.wav stems - In the event that you want to recreate the piece with your own libraries, you might find listening to these stems useful for reference reasons.
.pdf - Readme and Study Guide
The attached PDF doubles as a readme for information on how to use these files as well as notes that turn this study experience into a guided composition/orchestration lesson with recommended exercises of your own.
